Shatta Wale’s ‘Mahama Paper’ hit track was blared out of the speakers at last weekend’s NDC Campaign launch, leading to numerous questions over his affiliation to the party.
Shatta has already once denied through his representatives that he would support any party this campaign season, and he has been forced to issue that denial again.
Speaking on Starr Fm, the singer’s spokesperson Chris Koney said that the song does not belong to any party, just as Shatta does not belong to any party. He said the fact that it was played at an NDC event only points to the fact that it’s a popular tune in the country.
“As you know ‘Mahama paper’ is one of the biggest song in the country at the moment. When you go out there to weddings, naming ceremonies, funerals and many public events the song is played. So I want to believe that it is one of those things” he said.
“But I want to officially state categorically on this platform that Shatta Wale first of all is not a member of the NDC and he is not supporting the NDC.”
Koney said the singer has embarked on a peace campaign this election season, meaning he is being non partisan in his efforts.
“If you have followed us, we’re actually on a peace campaign. We’ve have been preaching about peace. Shatta Wale has not endorsed any candidate and he is not going to endorse any candidate. And the song is not an NDC campaign song, it has not been sold to the NDC or anything of that sort.
“I want to believe that just like every other function we’ve witnessed people dancing and singing to Shatta Wale songs, it should be one of those things. However, we would not engage the NDC party with regards to the song to sell or make any commercial gains out of it.” he concluded.
