President Mahama Says Government Would Not Shut Down Social Media On Election Day

President John Dramani Mahama has emphatically stated that government has no plans to block social media on election day, contrary to what the IGP has publicly expressed.
The President, speaking at the party’s campaign launch in Cape Coast Sunday, said that the furore over the possible ban is uncalled for since it wasn’t going to happen.
“I want to assure the people of Ghana that government has no intention to shut down social media on Election Day,” the President told the crowd of teeming supporters.
The Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor, turned heads when he floated the possibility of a ban, saying social media could be used to disrupt the polls and citing countries like Uganda as examples.
Since then, he has reiterated the call a couple more times, but if we’re to believe the President – those calls are moot.
