I can bet my two cents this argument is not going to end anytime soon. Producers, advertisers and corporate institutions find ways of achieving a big market share with their products and what better way to do it than to play on the minds of their potential consumers with sexual innuendos.
Have you not bought a product, use a service or thought of taking such an initiative because your eyes were fed with a sexually distracting image that got your perverted mind towing down the lane of under the sheets antics and satisfaction?.
Here is the cold hard truth, “Sex Sells.” Hate or love it, sex attracts the eye more than any other thing.
Take a look around at some of the biggest celebrities we have and the unnecessary semi nude photo shoot successions they have each and every day to promote one product or another—sex actually sells.
People who have benefited from using sex as a major tool in boosting their products or crafts far outweigh the number of people doomed by it. Kim Kardashian is a perfect example of this assertion. She has been able to make millions out of an ex tape she recorded years back and has even carved a career for herself after the success of her sex tape.
Moesha Boudong and the likes of her are only famous in this part of the world because of how much skin they show on social media. Quite recently, supposed actress Bibi Bright released a couple of steamy semi nude photos to promote her self produced movie. She was the talk of most radio and television discussions for weeks on end after that.
The blogs and social media also had their say and to some extent she got some much needed free publicity for her daring photos.
Why else would we have all those tasteless sex scenes in our movies of sex doesn’t sell. The painful aspect of those badly done sex scenes is it does not relate in anyway to the story being told and makes it obvious the purpose of that scene.
Movies like hot fork and the like only did well on the market because of their steamy sex scenes.
About 80% of the alcoholic beverages on the Ghanaian market are marketed as helping to heal or enhance sexual performance and I need not even touch on the pride and indescribable enthusiasm men rush to grace such products as if their lives depended on them (well men sort of live on their manhood) .
The bottom line is the sex sells concept must be used appropriately— used sparingly and judicially, is a strong selling tool, abuse it, and you will ultimately lose out.
Take a dive into the murky waters of sex to get the bigger picture.
