Interior Minister Prosper Bani has come out to clarify government’s position on the oft talked about social media election day ban, saying that they have no intention of implementing anything like that.
Mr Bani, whose ministry is the overarching authority over the Ghana Police Service – says the IGP’s comments on the issue has been misinterpreted to mean a ban was imminent.
“I would like to emphasise that as of today, and within the context of the upcoming elections, neither the government nor any of the security agencies has plans to disrupt social media during this year’s election,” the former Chief of Staff said, speaking at a UN program in Accra.
His comments come on the heel of the proposal by the IGP – to ban social media on election day because of its disruptive influence – which despite numerous denials from the police administration, he continues to talk about in several locations across the country.
