Szandra Szogedi made history in becoming the first Ghanaian to qualify for the Olympic Games in the sport of judo – but her adventure was pretty short lived, after she dropped out in the first round.
Szogedi faced Brazil’s Mariana Silva in the women’s 63 kilogrammes category Tuesday, and lost out to the home favourite in their battle.
Szogedi, 27, qualified for the Games to become the first Ghanaian representing Ghana in judo. Born to Hungarian parents, she switched nationality after marrying a Ghanaian.
