Former Ghana international Michael ‘The Bison’ Essien has completed the transition from player to analyst, after appearing as a pundit on a football match played on Monday.
Essien was part of the panel discussing the Saudi Super Cup game between Al Ahli and Al Hilal, played in London. He was providing insight and analysis for the Saudi based TV station MBC Sports.
Aside coaching, punditry is the most common job for retired football players, who provide an understanding of the game honed through several on pitch battles. Globally and locally, it is a widely chosen path for many retired legends of the game. Joe Addo, Laryea Kingston and Samuel Osei Kuffour are just three examples of retired Ghana stars continuing that tradition.
It’s not clear at the moment how permanent the gig is, but Essien is sure to dip his feet in the punditry pool again sooner rather than later.
