The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has set up a panel to commence preliminary investigations into the allegations of bribery levelled against the President following a news report into his receipt of a gift of a Ford vehicle from a Burkinabe contractor.
Spokesperson for the Commission, Comfort Akosua Edu, said following receipt of a petition calling for a probe, the Commission has launched a preliminary investigation into the issue, to decide if it merits a fuller probe.
She spoke to Citi Fm in Accra Monday.
“We did an initial assessment of the petition to find out whether it fall under CHRAJ’s investigative mandate [then] the commissioners appointed some investigators to do the preliminary investigations into the matter and that is where at the moment,” Akosua Edu said.
The President came under scrutiny after a Joy News report detailed his relationship with a Burkinabe contractor, Djibril Kanazoe.
The contractor reportedly gave the President a Ford Expedition as a gift, having won numerous government of Ghana contracts, both before and after sending the ‘gift’ – including construction of a major road in Ghana and one to build a wall around Ghana’s embassy in Ougadougou.
