MTN are straining to get their mobile money platform into every nook and cranny of our lives; and whilst it’s not necessarily a bad thing, they simply charge too damn much.
Paying 1% on any cash transaction, especially one designed for use by the middle and lower class, is simply exorbitant.
Latest reports indicate the company is in talks with another hated service provider, the Electricty Company of Ghana (ECG) to enable Ghanaians purchase prepaid credit via MTN mobile money.
“Discussions are already underway with the Electricity Company of Ghana to enrol the electricity prepaid service on the MTN Mobile Money platform,” a company official told the Graphic in Accra.
With the attempt to migrate most of the population onto the prepaid system, a service where prepaid could be purchased from the comfort of your wallet wouldn’t be a bad selling point for ECG. But if it turns out this new innovation means you have to walk to a vendor and then pay through your wallet, now that wouldn’t be too revolutionary.
