World Pele will not be able to attend tonight’s Olympics Opening ceremony in Rio–because he’s too sick to make an appearance.
Pele, 75, was tipped to light the Olympic cauldron which is a tradition that marks the opening of the games. However, Pele has just issued a statement saying he’s just too sick to attend.
“Only God is more important than my health. In my life, I’ve had fractures, surgeries, pain, hospital stays, victories and defeats. And I’ve always respected those who admire me,” Pele said.
“As a Brazilian, I ask God to bless all who participate in this event,” the statement said.
