Filipino senator Manny Pacquaio recently announced plans to ‘unretire’ from boxing, getting back into the ring mere months after he hung up his gloves.
Pacquaio’s return now has an official date, November 5, and an official opponent, World Boxing Organisation (WBO) welterweight champion Jessie Vargas.
The 37 year old’s manager Michael Koncz revealed the news, saying even though Pacquiao had planned to retire, he misses the ring too much.
“Retirement doesn’t suit Manny right now,” Koncz said of the former pound to pound king, who won titles across eight weight classes during his storied career.
“Boxing is in his blood. When he trains, it’s like a pressure-release valve. You can see a dramatic difference in his mood… he’s happy. It’s amazing what training and fighting does for him.”
Pacquiao announced his retirement in April this year, after a unanimous decision victory over Timothy Bradley, his only fight after his mega 2015 fight against Floyd Mayweather Jnr. Yet despite being elected to office in his country in May, it seems he’s hell bent on making a return to the ring.
