VIDEO: Kayayoo Spends Ten Years In Jail For 'Posession' Of Weed That Was Found In A Load She Was Transporting For Someone

First off, with draconian drug laws, such a case is easy to occur – not to talk about an imprecise justice system that crushes the less fortunate like this woman under its heel.
There is so much wrong with this story it’s difficult to know where to start deciphering it from.
Rose Gakpo was a kayayoo at the Ghana-Togo border when she got a job to carry a load of goods. According to her, she was just given the load, she hadn’t even charged for it and never knew what was in it.
Custom officers stopped her, and upon inspection, the goods were found to contain ‘wee’, which apparently was being smuggled. The officers arrested her, refusing to listen to her pleas that the load wasn’t hers.
Worse, she says she appeared in court without a lawyer as she couldn’t afford one, and she was summarily sentenced to ten years in jail.
It’s a sad story that lays bare all the problems wrong with justice in Ghana, from near incompetent cops to violation of constitutional rights with people being tried without legal representation. Handing such harsh sentences for drug offences aren’t ideal either.
