GC EXCLUSIVE: Why Are All Institutions Under the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing Being Asked to Pay 5000 GHS Towards the Funeral of The Father of the Deputy Minister—And Where Would They Get This Money From If Not From the Gov't Coffers?

GhanaCelebrities.Com has obtained a letter (above) which the person who furnished us with it claims came to a government institution he works at, under Ghana’s Ministry of Water resources, Works and Housing—and the letter is requesting his institution among others to contribute 5000 GHS towards the final funeral of the sector’s deputy Minister-Hon Samuel Adusei’s father.
The letter which came with a funeral invitation states among other things that “in order to make appearance as a Ministry towards the funeral, you are kindly requested to provide financial support towards the organisation of the funeral.”
It adds: “in this regard, we should be grateful if you could make a contribution of Five Thousand Cedis (GHS 5000). Your contribution should reach Mr D.K Tay (Director, Specific Duties), Room 28 of the Ministry by Thursday, 4th August, 2016.”
Without intending to upset the bereaved family or be contemptuous of the dead, shouldn’t a funeral rite be a private or family affair?
Why should any government institution be somewhat compelled to make a contribution of a specific amount to the funeral rites of the Minister or the deputy in charge?
And where would the money being requested as contribution from these institutions come from—if not from the government coffers?
GhanaCelebrities.Com placed a call to the Ministry of Water resources, Works and Housing for comments but our calls were not answered.
