The ruling National Democratic Congress have reportedly paid the Ghc 10,000 fines imposed on the jailed ‘Montie 3’.
Godwin Ako Gunn, Alistair Nelson and Salifu ‘Mugabe’ Maase are the infamous ‘Montie 3’, jailed for four months for contempt, after they threatened the lives of Justices of the Supreme Court.
Aside their sentences, they were each given a fine of Ghc 10,000 to pay, failure of which would have attracted an additional month in jail.
The NDC, which has stood staunchly behind their men, have reportedly settled the fines on their behalf. The owners of the station who were fined, including , also paid their Ghc 30,000 fines.
Both the NDC party and its supporters are mounting significant pressure on the President, John Dramani Mahama, to pardon the jailed panellists, some even threatening to withhold votes if that doesn’t happen.
