A former President of the Ghana Bar Association, Sam Okudzeto, has expressed strong support for the decision to jail the now infamous ‘Montie 3’, although adding he would have given a tougher sentence.
Speaking with Joy Fm after the sentencing of the three, Okudzeto said he would have give a much more rigorous sentence.
“I understand they were given four months sentence, if I were there I would have given them much longer.” he said.
Okudzeto said he would have gone for six months plus a one or two year ban from the media.
Okudzeto, when quizzed on whether they should have been let go after apologising, said that an apology was not a means to escape consequences for your actions, as it tends to happen in Ghana.
“That is not the way society is supposed to function…I abuse and insult and threaten judges and then I come and say sorry then you say I should get away with it? Whether I say sorry or not punishment must come, punishment has a deterrent.” he added.
