Montie Fm Panellists + Mugabe Receive Four Months Sentences For Contempt

The radio panellists on Montie Fm who were found guilty of contempt for insulting and threatening Justices of the Supreme Court have each been handed four month jail terms at their sentencing hearing held today.
The two panellists, Godwin Ako Gunn and Alistair Nelson, as well as the show host Salifu ‘Mugabe’ Maase, received the jail time at the sentencing hearing held Wednesday.
They are also to pay a fine of Ghc 10,000, or in lieu, spend another month in jail.
The owners of the station, which includes Edward Addo, Harry Zakuor, Ato Ahwoi and Kwesi Kyei Atuah – have also been fined Ghc 30,000 each.
Trial judge Sophia Akuffo said the panellists had been irresponsible in their utterances in threatening the judges, and also chastised the owners for not exercising enough control over issues. They have been asked to submit a plan to indicate how they can prevent a recurrence.
The trio were involved in a combustible panel discussion on Montie Fm that was talking about the EC’s Supreme Court case when they passed incendiary comments threatening the justices.
