Woow. If after a week in which two unarmed African Americans were shot in cold blood by Police, athletes cannot commemorate the tragedy, when else can they do it?
Three WNBA teams – the New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury and Indiana Fever – have each been fined $5,000 for their players donning shirts during warm-up with Black Lives Matter on the front.
The league said the shirt flouted regulations, which stipulate uniforms cannot be altered in any way.
According to the BBC, individual players were also fined $500 each.
The WNBA said the shirts flaunted rules, ok – but that’s just splitting hairs when faced with far more important issues. Besides, it’s not like they were just concentrating on those African American deaths and ignoring the killed police officers in Dallas, both were equally honoured on the shirt.
