The Ghana Police service are really not putting their best foot forward in reference to this proposed social media ban, with claims and counter claims coming from within the same organisation without any respect for the chain of command.
For such an important institution they aren’t really instilling confidence that they know what the hell they are doing, which makes it even scarier if they have to implement this so-called social media ban they keep talking about.
The director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, has come out against his boss the Inspector General of Police’s proposed election day social media ban.
In an interview on Starrfm Wednesday, Superintendent Arthur was asked to react to the IGP’s recent reiteration of support for the ban, to which he said the IGP has no such authority.
“A lot of the things he [IGP] does them in advisory role, he just advises the appropriate authority so the IGP doesn’t have the power to ban social media,” Arthur told the station.
The IGP, John Kudalor, had told some police personel in the Eastern Region Tuesday that he was fullly in support of the ban and might implement it. Strangely, this is the second time a subordinate has contradicted the IGP, which might indicate his insistence of the ban is a personal plaything of his, and does not reflect the position of the force.
