There’s something funny religion does to the human brain, which in some ways seem surprising but in many others make total sense.
So long as a story gains the legitimacy of religion behind it, people would buy it hook, line and sinker, no matter how outrageous or nonsensical it is. So people can believe a God who kills everyone on earth is a Good God, that donkeys talk and men can live in whales, or that a man can enter into heaven on a flying donkey or horse.
The absurd stories of religion go beyond this, of course, but people believe the whatever someone spins so long as he has the authority of religion behind it. It’s a phenomenon that occurs due to a double pronged combination of one part childhood indoctrination and one part never question your God.
Much like Yahweh and his son Jesus, there’s a lot to complain about Allah and Muhammad. Scriptures tell us Muhammad slept with a nine year old girl and was a warmongering conqueror, but apologists would explain it all away. Allah cheered Muhammad on with his bloodthirsty edicts in the Quran, but again no one sees anything wrong with them.
In this parody video to promote ‘The People vs Muhammad’, we see a Muslim who apparently couldn’t stand the cognitive dissonance anymore and exploded on air. He screamed at his fellow panellists and his entire religion to wake up and stop sipping the kool-aid. All the horrific things were in the book, they just had to read it without their blinders on to see them.
It’s a brilliant portrayal of a man whose entire world has just been turned upside down and who wants others to wake up. Maybe we’ll all wake up if we read the damn holy books with critical minds rather than one of apologetics.
Pity it’s a parody, but satire oftentimes turns out to be the best form of literature.
