British Prime Minister David Cameron is set to relinquish his post Wednesday ahead of the ascension of the Conservative Party’s new leader, Theresa May, into the office of head of government.
May survived the not so glamorous Tory leadership struggle, with her final opponent, Andrea Leadsom, withdrawing Monday to leave the Home Secretary with the position.
Cameron, when he announced his resignation after Brexit, had planned for an October step down in anticipation of a protracted leadership struggle, but the swiftness with which the contest has been settled makes the earlier timeline moot.
Cameron has thus announced that he would step down July 13, clearing the way for May to annex the position.
