Theresa May Wins First Round Of Voting For David Cameron's Successor


Voting for the next leader of the UK’s Conservative Party has commenced, with Home Secretary Theresa May winning the first round of voting.
May won the first round with 50% of the votes ahead of Andrea Leadsom and Michael Gove, who finished a surprising third.
“Mrs May got 165 of the 329 votes cast by Tory MPs.” The BBC reports.
“Andrea Leadsom came second with 66 votes. Michael Gove got 48. Liam Fox, who came last with 16 votes, has been eliminated. Stephen Crabb, who got 34 votes, has decided to drop out.”
The voting by the MP’s would continue till the field has been winnowed down to the final two. The final vote to decide the successor to Cameron would occur on 9 September.
The voting was triggered by Cameron’s resignation following the Brexit vote.

Justice Secretary Michael Gove – 48 (15%)
Work and Pensions Secretary Stephen Crabb – 34 (10%)
