British writer and comedian Caroline Aherne has passed away, BBC news reports.
Aherne announced a few years ago that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer, having previously fought off bladder and eye cancer.
After a bruising battle, she lost this time around and passed away aged 52, her publicist announced Saturday.
Aherne was a narrator of the Channel 4 reality series ‘Chatterbox’, and has appeared in the ‘Fast Show’. She’s most known for her work writing and starring in the BBC sitcom ‘The Royle Family’.
Aherne won three BAFTA awards for her work on the BBC sitcom, as well as several other awards and nominations.
