British Prime Minister David Cameron announced his resignation early Friday, after the UK’s EU referendum was won by the leave camp.
Brexit won the vote with 52% to 48% for remain.
Cameron thus announced his decision to step down, saying it was not right for him to steer the country on the course it’s about to embark on. Many believe his position has become untenable after he staked everything on a remain victory.
Cameron would step down in October.
