The Techiman Holy Family Hospital is not owned by the government of Ghana but its situation does not reflect that of a country bathing in any sort of better Ghana agenda—and its patients sleeping on the floor is not an isolated case, many government and non-government hospitals in Ghana have this problem because of inadequate facilities.
Per its website; the “Holy Family Hospital is a member of Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) operating within the National Catholic Health Service. The hospital is located in the commercial vibrant town of Techiman. The 210-bed facility provides Primary and Secondary levels healthcare to the people of the Municipality and beyond.”
This hospital is generally over-populated with patients because literally there are no nearby proper and well equipped hospitals for those who live in Techiman and its environs to seek healthcare—hence the case of admitted patients having to sleep on the floor.
A reader of GhanaCelebrities.Com’s sister was admitted to the hospital and while visiting last night, she came to tears—on seeing patients sleeping on bare floor because of inadequate beds and plausible alternative healthcare facilities for these patients to use even if the Holy Family Hospital is over-booked.
The reader who couldn’t believe what she saw wrote: “there are no enough rooms and beds for these patients and some are even sleeping on bare floor without mattresses. Some are also sleeping in chairs.”
How would a sick person even get well if his or her sleeping condition is this terrible? How can a patient rest properly on the floor for any sort of recuperation to effectively take place?
This is a 21st century main municipal hospital we are talking about—not a first world war military infirmary.
