Actress and writer Lydia Forson has penned a poignant ode to the pair of Ghanaian artists taking the world by storm after a slalom run on UK’s X-Factor- Reggie and Bollie.
In a post on her official website Thursday, Forson writes about what she perceives to be the biggest lesson to be gleaned from the success of the duo- which is the hope they exude to the downtrodden, that all dreams are possible.
Reggie and Bollie abandoned relatively successful careers here for the UK, and after a few years of relative anonymity, hit the big time when they went all the way to the finals of X-Factor, despite criticisms surrounding their lack of singing prowess on a predominantly singing show.
To Lydia, though, that they made it despite all the naysayers, and continue to achieve success with their first single, is a ray of hope to those who encounter challenges when trying to achieve something.
“For many they had become a beacon of hope, for anyone who’d been told NO, who’d been told to give up and move on, who’d battled with depression because they had a dream that seem unachievable.” The actress writes.
“Their story inspired many to urge on and like Barack Obama’s book “The Audacity of Hope” believe anything was possible.”

Reggie and Bollie- The Take Over
Last year, two Ghanaians took the X Factor UK by storm.
They worked their way through one of the toughest singing competitions into second place. A feat many argued should have been impossible.
Their success in the competition became a point of debate everywhere, with many “experts” weighing in on how impossible it should have been and whether or not they were even deserving of this.
The conversations however didn’t change the fact that they were LOVED, not by a few, but by millions of viewers who couldn’t be bothered by all the “noise” surrounding their success.
What people didn’t get was to many, it wasn’t just about their music or how they rocked the stage and got us on our feet dancing each time they came on; it was much bigger than that.
For many they had become a beacon of hope, for anyone who’d been told NO, who’d been told to give up and move on, who’d battled with depression because they had a dream that seem unachievable. Their story inspired many to urge on and like Barack Obama’s book “The Audacity of Hope” believe anything was possible.
For some entertainers like me and those brave enough to admit it, they reminded us that we weren’t alone in this lonely, stressful, nearly want to give up everyday and sometimes frustrating yet passion filled thing you call show business, but to us, is a calling we can never run away from.
Now months later, after placing second in the competition Reggie and Bollie continue to defy all odds and break records.
Unlike most contestants in all major competitions that seem to fizzle out after the excitements dies down, Reggie and Bollie hit the ground running and have kept the flame burning with their “Mash it up” vibe.
Their first single New Girl , a feel good summer song is already in contention to be one of the hit songs of this summer.
“New Girl ” has become the song of choice on nearly every radio station or social gathering especially summer parties.
I walked into a nail studio the other day and as I sat down their song immediately blasted through the speakers making my Asian nail technician bump her head to the beat; you know you’ve made it when your single is the song of choice at any hair and nail salon (trust me it’s where all the fun is).
I sat there beaming with pride like a proud mama who’s kids have finally placed first place in class.
If their new single is anything to go by, Reggie and Bollie are here to stay and dare I say are on the road to world domination. There dedication, zeal and humility are all the ingredients they need to -take over.
You don’t have to like their music, or even them in particular. But you do however have to respect their “we’re here to make it at all cost” attitude. Now if that’s not an X Factor I don’t know what is.
