Abeiku Santana has added his voice to the plethora of voices calling for common sense reforms to our drug laws, saying the punishment people receive for simply smoking weed is too much.
Marijuana is one of the drugs criminalised in many countries globally, despite it not being much more dangerous than either cigarettes or alcohol, both of which remain legal.
Ghana’s Tourism Ambassador has added his voice to that of recent prominent personalities calling for, if not legalisation, at least decriminilisation- such as Blakk Rasta and A Plus.
Abeiku Santana, speaking on Vibes in 5, said that the situation where people get jailed for simply smoking is not the best.
“Wee does not affect your thinking. Ghana our criminal code is too punitive! Someone smokes one or two rolls of weed and is jailed for 10years. Ahh!!! Ghana wake up”.
“…weed is an antidepressant” he said. “You can’t smoke more than 5 or 10 rolls of wee bit you can smoke 2 to 3 packs of cigarettes. Do you know what the nicotine does”? he queried the wisdom of labelling the drug as so dangerous.
The legalisation of weed is not just a matter of principle, but it can be a major cash cow if government regulated it. Former UN Boss Kofi Annan is one of those leading the push for the decriminalisation of drugs across board.
