The Manchester derby just got real!
English side Manchester United has appointed 53 year old Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho as new first team coach, with the official announcement expected to be made imminently.
The controversial Portuguese has been linked to the job ever since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, and has been widely tipped to take over since Dutchman Louis Van Gaal was sacked last week.
Mourinho signed his new contract minutes ago, and the club would make the official announcement of the appointment tomorrow.
Mourinho is one of the most divisive managers in world football, and thrives on the so-called mind games that coaches play with each other. He led Chelsea to three league titles across two spells, and won the UEFA Champions League with both Porto and Internazionale, as well as a league and cup with Real Madrid.
With his appointment, his battle with Pep Guardiola that flared up when they were on the opposite ends of the El Classico battle would be reignited in the more intimate arena of the Manchester Derby.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand signalled the all but certain deal with one tweet.
