It’s beginning to dawn on me that President Mahama genuinely believes he has done a good job, and that all that is wrong with this country at the moment does not in any way stem from his governance.
Either that, or he’s the biggest troll of all time.
The President recently said that it seems like so many people are against his government due to incessant complaining, when in actual fact they are just angry with their spouses and dumping their anger on him.
Or something along those lines.
The President was recently in London  for the anti corruption summit when he told a group of Ghanaians that the perception of corruption in his government is high because there is increased media discussion of it and everyone can join in and say what they like.
That’s when he slipped in the comment that angry spouses pile their anger on him.
“When you have a country like Ghana where everybody is free to discuss corruption, if you wake up and you are angry with your husband or wife you take it out on the President [and] abuse him on the radio. When you have that kind of society, there are all kinds of issues that come up,” he told the assembled group.
The President added that the phenomenon of social media has worsened the situation.
“And then we have the addition of social media, [where] because of the anonymity, people just fix some blatant lies and put it on WhatsApp. And sometimes they are so creative and I said these people the way they are creative if they channel this creativity into lucrative things Ghana would not be where it is.”
“They would create something about you and if it is not because I am myself and I know that it is not true anybody who sees it would believe it. We have all that floating in the system and all that so it heightens people’s perception about corruption. And so it is easy to say that there is more corruption in this regime than in that regime, where would comparison of between corruption take us it won’t take us anywhere,”
Like former President Kuffour, who once said when talking about corruption in his regime, you need to provide evidence; President Mahama called for something similar.
“[People say] your ministers are all thieves, which one? Tell me so that I can get the person.
“The important thing is to put in the systems that prevent corruption from taking place. Have the political willingness to expose it and investigate it and sanction it, and I have said I am willing if any allegations are made. A lot of times, somebody comes and says ‘oh this guy he is stealing’, and I ask him, ‘how do you know?’
“You need to deal with it in a more systematic manner, and that’s why we are putting in place a legislation that protects whistle blowers, because whistle blowers are important. The person who sees corruption happening, you must put in the regulation that ensures that when he has blown the whistle, he is protected” he added.
Politics in Ghana is just a revolving door, of two parties who would say or do whatever it takes to get elected and stay in power, and their perspective on any issue only depends on whether they are in office or in opposition.
The number of issues NDC used to bash NPP on that they are now defending is innumerable, and if one day they get into opposition, I imagine they would start harping on the same things. Our options are terribly limited in this country.
