George Zimmerman recently placed the gun he used to shoot Trayvon Martin to death in 2012 on auction, saying he is selling an ‘American Firearm Icon’.
Zimmerman’s auction was initially taken down, but it was later put back up; and a bid of $120,000 turned out to be the winning bid.
Zimmerman shot and killed African American teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012, who was unarmed at the time. The case sparked off a huge debate over race relations, with Zimmerman’s later being acquitted and Black Lives Matter forming in the aftermath.
Zimmerman had placed the gun up for online auction, with bidding starting at $5,000. He said proceeds from the sale would be used to fight Hilary Clinton’s anti-firearm rhetoric and to end the violence against officers fuelled by the Black Lives Matter Movement.
