Taylor Swift Receives Award Named After Her At 2016 BMI Awards

Singer Taylor Swift has received the eponymous Taylor Swift award from the Broadcast Music Inc (BMI) for her incredible contributions to the world of music.
Swift was presented with the award at the BMI pop awards held in Los Angeles Tuesday night, and becomes only the second artist to receive an award named after themselves from the organisation, after Michael Jackson in 1990.
Swift also picked up the BMI pop songwriter of the year award.
“This is just an unbelievable night,” Taylor, a ten time Grammy award winner, said.
“If they had chosen someone else to give the Taylor Swift Award to, I’d be kind of bummed about it.” She added.
Other records picked up awards, including Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ as Pop Song of the Year, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil were presented with the BMI Icon Award, and artists such as Jason Derulo (Trumpets), Flo Rida (Somebody), and Rachel Platten (Fight Song) were recognised for writing airplay hits.
The BMI has held the pop awards annually for the past 64 years, rewarding the best in pop music for the preceding year.
