Cameroonian international and Dinamo Bucharest midfielder Patrick Ekeng has sadly passed away after collapsing on the pitch during a Romanian league game Friday night.
Ekeng’s Bucharest were playing Viitorul when he collapsed. He was stretchered away to the hospital, but was pronounced dead two hours later in a suspected case of cardiac arrest.
Ekeng, 26, played for Canon Yaounde in his homeland before leaving for Europe, where he has played for Le Mans and Lausanne, among other sides. He has been capped seven times by the Cameroonian senior national team, The Indomitable Lions.
Ekeng becomes the second high profile Cameroonian footballer to die whilst playing, after Marc-Vivien Foe also collapsed and died whilst playing for Cameroon against Columbia in the 2003 Fifa Confederations Cup.
May he rest in peace.
