‘Iron Man’ actor Robert Downey Jnr is set to join the cast of next year’s Sony Entertainment Spider-Man reboot, ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.
The deal to snag the highly sought after actor was announced Thursday, with his actual role yet to be concretised.
Tom Holland, who is set to play Spider-Man, appeared in Marvel’s latest offering, ‘Captain America: Civil War’; and it seems the executives at Sony saw enough to think about recruiting Iron Man for the next Spider-Man.
Homecoming would star Holland in the reboot of the long running franchise, alongside Marisa Tomei, Zendaya and Tony Revolori. The movie was penned by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, and would be directed by Jon Watts.
Homecoming reportedly focuses on Peter Parker’s teenage years, leading up to his debut as Spider-Man. It hits theatres on July 7, 2017.
