North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered a crackdown on the ‘growing menace’ of Western fashion in the country.
In a ban incorporating the wearing of jeans and the use of body piercings, the juvenile leader is said to be worried about the influence the increasing use of Western fashion would have on his citizens.
The ban is focused on the North Hamgyong and Yanggang provinces, both of which lie close to China, MailOnline reports.
Inspection units have been formed, made up of mostly young people who would report back to Pyongyang on those exhibiting “supposed capitalist tendencies such as length of skirts, the shape of shoes, T-shirts, hairstyles, and clothes.”
This is not an outlier in the highly totalitarian state as well. In the past, students have been warned to model their hairstyles after their ‘god’ of a leader. And Jong-un is known for killing state officials for trivial reasons.
