2009’s record breaking box office darling Avatar is set to have not one, not two, but four exciting sequels, director James Cameron has announced.
The epic movie director had initially decided on a couple sequels, but after meeting a team of ‘four screenwriters and a group of “some of the top artists and designers in the world,” he realized that he had way too much material for just two films.’ Variety reported Friday.
He initially decided on three sequels, before finally settling on the magic number of four.
“So far, what I am seeing in pure imagination is far beyond the first film,” Cameron said
“We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic project, making four epic films, each of which stands alone but together forms a complete saga,”
Cameron, the multiple award winning director of The Terminator cinematic series and Titanic, released Avatar, the culmination of a ten year effort, in 2009. The movie went on to become the highest grossing movie of all time internationally, a record it holds to this day.
The Avatar sequel is expected to be released in 2018.
