A Cameroonian Catholic Priest based in Ghana is set to be dragged before court for impregnating a 24 year old lady and refusing to take care of the child’s upbringing.
Reverend Father Yves-Lucien Evaga Njana would appear before the juvenile court April 20, where a 24 year old woman, Josephine Ganyoame, is suing him to take care of his six month old child.
“In the suit filed on April 7, the plaintiff is seeking a declaration that the respondent’s irresponsibility breaches the rights of the child to a name, basic necessities of life, welfare and social protection.” Myjoyonline reports.
“She is further praying the court to direct the Reverend Father to subject himself to a paternity test in order to establish he is the biological father of the child, among other reliefs.”
According to the synopsis of the case laid out, the Rev Father met Josephine in October 2014, when his car nearly knocked her down.
They became close after the incident, with the priest supporting her education by paying her fees to the University. He started making advances towards her later, and she gave in, leading to their amorous adventures.
She said she got pregnant a while later, and that the priest requested an abortion, which she refused. He gave her Ghc 20,000 for the pregnancy, which she used to take care of herself.
However, the priest vehemently denies the child is his, and has made no effort to look after it since it was delivered. When he was contacted: “he admitted to having a sexual relationship with the lady but denied being the father of the child. He claimed that he used a condom each time they had sex and could therefore not have impregnated the lady.
“He indicated that all efforts to get the girl to go for a paternity test have proven futile.”
Josephine insists she wants the test to be court ordered, so that the results cannot be altered.
