The political climate in the country is heating up as we approach the 2016 polls in November, and both major parties are beginning to fire on all cylinders.
The NDC recently attacked the NPP’s record on the Volta region, claiming that they did nothing for the people of the region commonly cited as the NDC’s ‘world bank’.
In a speech on Wednesday, former President John Agyekum Kuffour hit back at that characterisation. According to him, the NPP undertook real development for the region and country, not the ‘kids movies’ that NDC is showing Ghanaians now.
“When we got the chance, there was real development, not the kids’ movies NDC is showing to people now,” he said.
“They claim we did nothing in the Volta region. Let’s start from Keta. The money they acquired for the sea defense wall, they squandered it. It was during my tenure that we constructed the wall.” The animated ex-President continued.
“Ho Polytechnic was virtually built by us. Even the University of Ghana envies this school. Go to Nkonya through to Dambai. We constructed all those roads in the first term of the NPP.”
Ghana’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections are set for November 7, 2016, when President Mahama takes on the NPP’s Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo. More of such political bickering is set to hit us as we move towards campaign season proper.
