In an unfortunate turn of events illustrating how rising tempers and firearms should never mix, a US teen is facing jail time after he shot his older brother in a fight over a girl.
15 year old Dakota Thornton of Williamstown, Pennsylvania, shot his 18 year old sibling Dominic because he was jealous of Dominic’s girlfriend.
According to PEOPLE, the incident occurred Wednesday, when police were called to respond to a 2 am shooting. Dakota loaded a nearby shotgun and shot his brother in a fight over the girl.
Police arrested him on the scene, and court records show he confessed to shooting his brother in a fight over a girl.
“They were both interested in the same girl,” District Attorney Ed Marsico said about the shooting.
Dakota is being tried as an adult despite his age, and has been charged with homicide.
