Archbishop-Duncan Williams stepped on the toes of Muslims during one of his recent sermons—accusing them of all manner of absurdities, claiming they invoke black magic and certain dark forces.
Of course, as usual, the Archbishop was talking bollocks—except that, he was talking bollocks about a group of people who wouldn’t take it slightly with him.
As such, Duncan Williams quickly after the service ran to apologize for everything he said—an action many Christians including Evangelist Akwasi Awuah have called it hypocrisy and shameful.
Even according to Evangelist Akwasi Awuah, if indeed Archbishop-Duncan Williams was inspired by God to preach as men of God always claim, then why is he apologizing for what God has ordered him to preach or say?
Though this illustrates the hypocrisy existing in the pulpit—it also highlights the hovering unhealthy tension around the criticism of Islam, something that curtails Freedom of Expression.
For a religion said to be a religion of Peace, it should bath itself in accepting criticism, the most offensive of it all even—yet, a small dose of criticism may fetch your head on a spike.
If indeed Islam is what it claims to be; a religion of Peace—then a test of this is to allow peace while embracing all manner of criticisms. And so far, it’s arguably that this has not been case all around us.
We may not agree with what Archbishop-Duncan Williams said, but we should be able to defend his right to say it—and NOT create an environment such that for fear of whatever, he had to forcefully run to apologize.
Anyway, what the two videos below…
