Mexicans Burned Effigies Of Donald Trump During Easter Celebrations

Donald J. Trump

Donald Trump is well on his way to clinching the nomination to be the Republican candidate for President, and might very well be the US’ next commander-in-chief- but there’s no love lost between him and their immediate Southern neighbours Mexico.
In launching his campaign, Donald Trump said Mexican immigrants to the States are mainly drug dealers and rapists, with only a few good people (he assumed that one). He has since doubled down, promising to build a wall at the Southern border, one which he’ll get Mexico to pay for!
So to say he’s public enemy in Mexico would be an understatement. Luckily for him, that did not prevent him being a part of their Easter celebrations. All across the country, celebrants mounted effigies of Trump, and burned them down methodically.
The burning is part of a ritual held across Mexico, in which a figure representing Judas Iscariot is burnt for his betrayal of Jesus. The effigies are often modeled using the images of unpopular public figures.
What Trump craves above all is attention, so in a way he has succeeded- even if that attention is nothing but a contemptuous one.
