Barack Hussein Obama is President of the United States of America, so-called leader of the free world and head of the most powerful nation in the world. But even he could not get a meeting with Lionel Messi on his schedule.
President Obama is on a visit to Argentina, and has revealed that whilst there was one important person his daughters wanted to meet, it could simply not be arranged.
He was talking about world’s best footballer, Argentina’s Lionel Messi.
According to Obama, whilst he was able to arrange a meeting with His Holiness Pope Francis, the Barcelona forward proved to be more elusive prey.
“I also wanted to bring my daughters here, so they could see the beauty and the vibrancy of [Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires],” Obama said.
“They’ve already met one famous Argentinean – His Holiness Pope Francis. Now they want to meet Messi, but I could not arrange that.”
Messi is back in the country, preparing with the national team for crucial qualifying games. Obama is on diplomatic trips that have encompassed Cuba and now Argentina.
