The 25 year old KNUST graduate, Nazir Nortei Alema, who left Ghana to join ISIS last year, has reportedly been killed.
The Finder reported Monday that Nazir was killed in the Syrian city of Homs. No other details of his death have as yet been divulged.
His family reportedly held the final Islamic funeral rites for the departed over the weekend.
A colleague Ghanaian who went on the journey towards radicalisation with Nazir, Mr Yusif, a graduate of the University of Mines in Prestea, informed Nazir’s family of his demise via email.
Nazir Nortei Alema, a 25-year-old graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was last August identified as one of ten Muslim Youth who had been radicalised and have left the country to join the Islamic State (IS) Terror group.
Nazir and his friends left the country in August, soon after the former completed his mandatory National Service with the Statistical Service.
His father, at the time, said his son sent the family a message that he was on his way to Prestea on official assignment. He however, sent another one after a while to divulge his diabolical intentions.
“Pray for me, for I will never forget you in my prayer and it’s my hope and prayer that we meet again if not in this world then in Jannah (paradise). I love you all. May Allah grant us understanding and guide us all to the straight path. Asalaamu alaikum.
“I told you a lie to please my Allah. The deception was to go do some research work in far away Prestea while the main idea was to move far away from you all to the Islamic State (IS). I know it might sound kind of crazy for you but your son really had to take this bold step to get out of the corrupt system of Ghana which has democracy first on its list. You can follow this link to know about the ‘shirk’ called democracy islamqa.info/en/98134”. His message read.
