President John Dramani Mahama received a honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland Friday, part of his working visit to the country that has stirred up so much controversy.
The degree was conferred on him at a convocation held at the University’s King’s College campus.
This is the second such honorary award the President has been conferred with within the past few months- the University of Illorin in Nigeria conferred a similar Doctor of Laws on him in October.
Mahama’s visit to Scotland stirred up controversy over Ghana’s human rights record, as some MP’s protested during his speech to Parliament.
You can listen to our thoughts on these ‘honorary awards’ on the second episode of the Ghana Freethinkers podcast.
