President John Dramani Mahama has condemned the terrorist attacks that hit two close allies over the weekend, describing them as ‘despicable and unconscionable’.
West African neighbours Cote d’Ivoire were attacked by Al-Qaeda on Sunday, with sixteen people killed when gunmen opened fire at a beach resort in Grand Bassam. In Turkey, an explosion at Guven Park in the Kizilay district, left over one hundred people wounded.
President Mahama, who recently held bi-lateral talks with Turkish President Erdogan, condemned the attacks. A statement signed by Communications Minister Edward Omane Boamah addressed the issue of the attacks.
“President John Dramani Mahama has described as despicable and unconscionable the terrorists’ attacks on Cote d’Ivoire and Turkey in Grand Bassam beach resort and the Kizilay district respectively on Sunday, 13th March, 2016.” The statement read.
“The President expressed Ghana’s deepest condolences and sympathy to President Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, their governments and people. He also wished the injured speedy recovery.” it continued.
The President said: “Ghana stands by the two countries in their moments of profound grief and adversity. Let us work together as a global community to win the war against terrorism even as we strengthen global, regional and national security mechanisms.”
