HBO’s Game of Thrones returns April 24, and the biggest question remains whether Jon Snow is indeed coming back.
Many fans, like myself, do not doubt for a second that the Lord Commandeer of the Night’s Watch is coming back. The only question is in what form his eventual resurrection would take
However, if new cast member Ian McShane is to be believed, and he is- one character is definitely coming back. Sandor ‘The Hound’ Clegane, played by Rory McCann, was last seen near death- after his epic battle with Brienne of Tarth over who gets custody of Arya Stark.
Clegane asked Arya for a merciful death after that encounter, but the hardened girl refused, preferring that he suffer from his wounds as long as possible instead.
McShane, who has joined the cast of the hit TV show for Season 6, revealed during an interview the return of Clegane. He was talking about his new character, who is a sort a former warrior turned monk running his religious order.
“The character is like a former warrior who has renounced violence and now leads this peace cult around wherever they are.” McShane revealed.
“But also I have nursed a loved character, a much loved character, back to life, and it reintroduces, I won’t say him or her. But it’s a character that’s much loved who everybody thinks has died, and he’s not dead,”
The character McShane would play, from his utterances, is known as Elder Brother, in George R.R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, the show’s source book. Familiar readers immediately know who Elder Brother nursed back to health in A Feast for Crows.
McCann had been spotted in Belfast last year whilst filming was underway, so this just confirms earlier speculations of his return.
Game of Thrones returns April 24 for its sixth season, on HBO.
