Straight Outta Compton took home the biggest award of the night at the first ever All Def Movie Awards night held in Hollywood Wednesday night.
The movie won the biggest award on the night, taking home ‘Best Picture’ over Beasts of No Nation, Chi-raq, Concussion, Creed and Dope.
The show, organised by Russell Simon’s All Def Digital, is in response to the lack of diversity in Oscar nominees that has plagued the motion picture academy for the past two years- there wasn’t a single coloured actor/movie in the top categories for this year’s show despite huge years for some movies like Compton, Creed and Beasts of No Nation.
Michael B. Jordan picked up the Best Actor award for his performance in Creed, with The Perfect Guy’s Sanaa Lathan picking up Best Actress.
The show was held on the night of Wednesday 24 February in Hollywood Nightclub Lure, hosted by Tony Rock, whose brother Chris would host the Oscars. The show would be telecast on Fusion on Oscar night February 28.
Will Smith took home the Lifetime Achievement award, whilst an award you’ll never see on any other show, ‘Most Likely To Steal Your Girl Award’- went to Amber Rose.
