Over Fifty People Dead In Horrific Accident In Kintampo After Their Metro Mass Bus Developed Brake Problems

Accident-620x330
Sad news coming out of the Brong Ahafo region, after a Metro Mass Bus travelling to Tamale crashed into a cargo track Wednesday night, killing many on the spot, and leaving several others injured.
At the moment, the dead is totalled at 53 (still rising), with many hospitalised, some of whom are also reported dead at the hospital.
The news is made all the more tragic with information indicating the driver realised the brake problem earlier, but shouldered on with the journey, eventually leading to the unfortunate crash.
The incident occurred around 2000 GMT Wednesday night, when the bus departed the Kintampo township for a journey up north.
On the way, the driver is reported to have noticed brake problems, but decided to continue the journey after attending to it.
Unsurprisingly, the brakes failed again, this time whilst descending a steep stretch of road around the waterfalls, causing him to crash headlong into an incoming truck loaded with tomatoes.
Several leaders, including the President and opposition leader Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, have all expressed condolences with the grieving families. More than that, an inquiry has to be made into how Metro Mass keeps their buses serviced, how they hire their drivers, and whether any rules are laid down on how to deal with a fault that develops mid journey.
Because it looks to me like this was a totally avoidable incident, and we have to make sure people do not die so needlessly again in the future.
