Justice Paul Uuter Dery, one of the high court judges implicated in the judicial bribery scandal unearthed by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, and who has fought the charges at every turn- says he is being threatened with death for his legal gymnastics.
In that vein, Dery has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate the threat against him as he does not feel safe.
In a letter written to the IGP, Dery points to an article on Daily Graphic’s Facebook page, where a commenter ‘threatened’ the esteemed judge, under a story on his petition to the President that Anas’ Tiger Eye Company does not exist.
“On 15th February 2016, I saw and read a publication in the Daily Graphic at page 42, where one Cephas Kumah posted a statement on the 9th February, 2016 on the Facebook page of Daily Graphic with my photograph shown therein. The statement is titled as follows: ‘Justice Dery Petitions President over True Identity of Tiger Eye PI’.” His letter stated.
“The body of the statement is that: ‘This man’s intransigence is making some of us revise our note on Amartey Kwei and co’s killing of the three high court judges and the retired army officer. For how long will this legal gymnastics last?
Consequently, Paul Dery said: “Respectfully, I feel threatened by the above statement of Cephas Kumah. I am therefore requesting that you use your good office to cause investigations to be conducted into this threat. I hope and pray that you would expeditiously act on this petition as I fear for my life,”’
Justice Dery has tried several legal gymnastics’ as the commenter wrote, and this could be interpreted as one- although the tone of that comment is menacing, and should be totally investigated.
Much like the person on trial for threatening the US ambassador, Cephas could be in trouble soon. Again, people seem to forget online actions can sometimes have consequences in the real world.
