When news of the death of the Abuakwa North MP broke, anyone observant of Ghanaian politics could predict that it wouldn’t take long for political and tribal meanings to be read into the whole thing.
And lo and behold, here we are. Social media was inundated with rumours of the alleged involvement of Stan Dogbe, the communications director at the presidency, in the murder of the late MP.
Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu was the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North in the Eastern region, until he was stabbed to death at his home earlier this week.
In a sharply worded rebuke on his Facebook page, Dogbe called those spreading the rumours ‘fools’. According to him, it is a campaign strategy by the NPP to tarnish the image of the President in this election year.
Police have arrested a key suspect in the murder of the MP, the fruit of an operation carried out by the Greater Accra regional Police command. Investigations into the death of the late legislator continues, but such political and tribal smears, I’m sure- are just beginning.
