Two passenger trains collided Tuesday morning in the German state of Bavaria.
The crash occurred “on a single-track route between Rosenheim and Holzkirchen at about 07:00 local time (06:00 GMT).” The BBC reported.
Four people are reported killed and over one hundred injured. 15 people are in critical condition.
“This is the biggest accident we have had in years in this region and we have many emergency doctors, ambulances and helicopters on the scene,” police spokesman, Stefan Sonntag, told the Associated Press news agency.
The trains were carrying commuters, although long carnival holidays meant there were no school children on board. The accident occurred on the single track route linking Bavaria with Austria.
One of the trains derailed after the crash, whilst several carriages overturned.
Emergency rescue workers continue to scramble through the wreckage, as some people remain trapped.
