Adele’s ‘Hello’ broke records so many records after its release late last year, it isn’t surprising it’s propelled the singer to the top of the charts for the year.
This success has propelled her to be adjudged by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) as the best selling artiste of 2015.
In a statement, the IFPI chief executive Frances Moore described Adele’s album, ‘25’, as the ‘runaway global sensation of 2015’.
Adele’s album, ‘25’, of which ‘Hello’ was the lead track, was released in November. Aside the short time it had in 2015 to make such an impact, the singer did not even to post it up on streaming sites- making her feat doubly remarkable.
Fellow British singer Ed Sheeran was the second best selling artiste of the year, followed by Taylor Swift- who was the 2014 winner- Justin Bieber and One Direction.
IFPI reaches its figures by compiling artist’s digital and physical sales, as well as streaming figures.
