Two months ago several Ghanaians had probably never even heard of Yemen- now it seems the two countries are inextricably linked.
Four Yemeni nationals have been arraigned before court in Accra for entering the country with fake French passports and visas.
The four, Esmail Yahya Zey ad aka Evra Allerson, Gaafar Eissa Yahya Amer aka Ciro Carlos, Waleed Ahmed Yahya aka Debuchya Allard – all students – and Eissa Yahya Airier, a businessman; entered the country in November last year, attempting to beat security at the Kotoka International Airport with their fake documents. However, the BNI arrested them after irregularities were discovered in their travel documents.
A search revealed some of them had Yemeni passports in addition to their fake French passports. They were in transit in Ghana enroute to France, and then to Istanbul, Turkey.
Prosecutors arraigned them before court on charges of forgery, where the accused denied the offence through the use of an interpreter. The case was adjourned to February 15.
Ghanaians last month discovered that two Yemeni nationals were to seek refuge in the country after being released from Guantanamo Bay. That sparked a huge uproar that is just subsiding, and this news of Yemeni nationals entering with fake documents is likely to raise temperatures just a little more- notwithstanding the fact it happened before the Guantanamo story broke.
